10th December 2006 - KEELAN HAT TRICK SINKS VIKINGS
A plucky Western Vikings crashed to a 38-0 home defeat at the hands of Southern Nomads in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield with Nomads flanker Rob Keelan bagging three second half tries at a bitterly cold QE2 School.
Vikings put up stiff early resistance and Nomads only took the lead after capitalising on errors. Vikings’ scrum half George Gadsby punted aimlessly downfield in the 10th minute and gave Nomads their first real possession of the game. Bulky wing James Hammal fielded the kick and crashed through some sloppy tackling. His offload found Ian Hargreaves who quickly fired it on to Cam Sayle who charged in under the posts. Dave Edge added the extras for a 7-0 lead.
A few minutes later the lead was doubled. Nomads pack put the squeeze on at a Vikings scrummage and as Gadsby tried to tidy up scrappy ball at the base, his Nomads counterpart Andy Lean scooped up the bobbling ball and scooted in under the sticks for a try which was again easily converted by Dave Edge to leave it 14-0 to the visitors at the break.
