| WHO ARE WE? | |

Welcome to the Western Vikings Rugby Football Club's website. Western Vikings are proud to
present our new website for the 05/06 season and here you can read all about the present and
future news from the west of the island. Western Vikings were founded in 1989 and have been going strong ever since. In 1990 they were registered for the Manx leagues thus competing in the Manx Sheild, Bowl, Cup and Plate. During this time we have also been competing in competitions away from the island including the Cheshire Cup and Cheshire Plate a number of years ago. |

| HISTORY | |

Our history stretches back some years now with our last bit of silverware coming in the form of
the Manx Bowl in 2004. After a stuttering season that year seen Vikings only qualify for the bowl
competition, however we found ourselves in the Bowl Final. The team that we met in the final was Castletown
and on the day Vikings came out on top 37-14, and so the Bowl came to the west of the island for the
first and only time. Arguably our proudest moment come in the 97/98 season when Western Vikings were the elite team on the island. A last day of the season victory away to Vagabonds, gave us the Manx Shield for the first and only time in our history. During our history we have been runners up in the Manx Plate on numerous occasions including last season when we lost 27-13 to Vagabonds II's in the Plate final. |

| OUR FUTURE? | |
|
Over the last couple of season Vikings have been rebuilding for the future with emphasis on youth
but also not forgetting the need for experienced players to bring the young players through our youth
system. At the moment our squad is of a decent size and with a mixture of youth and experience we hope
to build a team that is able to compete for silverware on both home and away fronts. We have secured a home for the next five years and we hope work on that home will commence in the early part of 2006 with Vikings being able to use the pitch for the start of the 2006/2007 season. With the finish to the 2004/2005 season being a succesful one, we hope that this season will start where the last one left off, which means us building on our Plate final appearence of last season. |
